This website is dedicated to my grandfather, William (Dinty) Moore, one of the most important and influential men in my life. I always felt that if I could be half the man my grandfather was, I’d be a great man. Not only was he incredibly gifted and talented but the kindest, most gentle and compassionate human beings I’ve ever known.
Thank you grandpa for all those hours that you not only imparted your artistic knowledge to me but also for sharing your view of the world and how the simple things touch us all every day! You taught me how to see differently, how to listen, how to laugh … and above all how to care and be compassionate towards all living things. You have no idea how much this has changed me!!
My artistic interest started very early in my life. I would spend hours watching grandpa sign painting at work and painting in his little garage behind his house in London, Ontario. When I was old enough, we would go out and paint en plein air either behind our house or down in Point Farms Provincial Park just north of Goderich, Ontario where I lived for most of my childhood.
Throughout most of my early life I thought I was going to become an artist just like my grandfather and dreamt often of finishing high school and going to OCAD, in Toronto. Interestingly enough, it was a conversation with my grandfather when I was in my mid-teens that changed my future forever. He suggested that I keep my artistic pursuits as a hobby, something I could enjoy personally and to find something else that I could do to earn an income. At first I was shocked and devastated … my dreams were crushed! Now what was I going to do? In retrospect my grandfather was simply trying to dissuade me from a difficult life of an artist trying to make ends meet and raise a family.
Trusting his judgment, I went to business school … and the rest as they say … is history.
Although there was a 13 year void where I rarely lifted a pencil or paint brush as I focused on my career … I’m now finally back on track. And yes, my grandfather was right … as always. I now have a career and feel incredibly blessed that I can draw and paint just for the pleasure of it. I’m slowly completing my Bachelor of Fine Arts at Concordia University and loving every minute of it. I often feel my grandfather is here enjoying every moment with me.
Thanks again grandpa …and thanks to all my family and friends who have encouraged me over the years.
