Calendar Description: An exploration of drawing as a means of expression. Various media are employed to examine and express form, space, figurative, and other graphic images. Drawing from observation, imagination, and memory is included.
Course Description: An introductory level course in which students are encouraged to explore their world in drawing. Through a series of structured visual experiences all the elements of line, value, volume, space, tonality, illumination, shape, mark, surface, iconography, etc. will be considered in the context of contemporary art. Content will be addressed as issues arise from the work at hand, class discussions, and exhibitions. During the winter term more experimental approaches to drawing will be emphasized during this part of the course with increasing opportunities to work independently, resulting in a personal body of work by the end of the term. All the formal aspects of drawing will be elaborated further.
